International influencer marketing is how brands enter a new country through the people that country already watches: local creators on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. This guide is the end-to-end playbook for brands selling across borders, including brands from China and Asia expanding to the US and Europe: how to choose markets and platforms, which collaboration model to use, what creators cost country by country, how to run outreach and contracts across time zones, which disclosure rules apply, and how to measure results.
The channel is large and still growing. In the US alone, IAB projects creator-economy ad spend of $37 billion in 2025, up 26% year over year, against 5.7% growth for media overall6. In Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 survey, 87.49% of respondents expected their influencer budget to increase7. The country-level numbers below come from Kolect's own campaigns: since August 2025, Kolect has run 261 campaigns for 96 brands and closed 1,867 creator deals with 1,706 creators in 52 countries2.
What is international influencer marketing?
International influencer marketing is paying creators in other countries to promote your product to their local audiences. The mechanics match domestic influencer marketing; what changes at the border is everything around them.
| What changes | Domestic campaign | International campaign |
|---|---|---|
| Language and culture | Your own | The creator's; the brief, product claims and hooks need localising |
| Platform mix | Known | Differs by country; TikTok Shop, for example, is a separate local shop in each of its markets8 |
| Creator prices | Familiar benchmarks | Vary by country (see Step 1); quoted mostly in USD |
| Contracts and payment | Local law, local bank | Cross-border payment, currency, tax forms, time zones |
| Product logistics | Ship next day | Samples cross customs; build international shipping time into the timeline |
| Disclosure rules | One regulator | The audience's regulator, plus the platform's own rules (see Step 7) |
Run it market by market. A central team owns the product story, contracts and measurement; sourcing, briefs and outreach happen per country.
Step 1: Choose your markets with creator-price data
Pick one to three markets where you can already sell, ship and support customers, then check what creators there cost. Creator fees differ more by country than most budgets assume.
Median agreed creator fee per collaboration and per 1,000 views, by creator country (Kolect-run campaigns, Aug 2025 – Oct 20261)
| Country | Median agreed fee | Median fee per 1,000 views | Deals (n) |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $5001 | $27.451 | 2,633 |
| United Kingdom | $6001 | $26.721 | 189 |
| Germany | $7001 | $25.201 | 135 |
| France | $5601 | $21.541 | 136 |
| Spain | $5001 | $18.511 | 300 |
| Italy | $4291 | $17.431 | 82 |
| Canada | $5751 | $32.691 | 112 |
| Japan | $5051 | $22.111 | 76 |
| South Korea | $4001 | $13.631 | 128 |
| Brazil | $4001 | $6.121 | 167 |
| Türkiye | $4001 | $8.921 | 89 |
| Indonesia | $3501 | $20.311 | 46 |
| India | $3001 | $19.951 | 65 |
Three things stand out. Germany was the most expensive large market per collaboration and Canada the most expensive per view; Brazil and Türkiye cost a fraction of the US per view; and the US, with by far the largest sample, sits mid-pack per view at $27.451. A cheap view is only cheap if the viewer can buy: price your markets on cost per view first, then on what share of viewers your store can serve.
Two checks before you commit:
- Can you sell there through the channel creators will drive? If you plan to sell through TikTok Shop, it lists 19 countries across the Americas, Asia and Europe, and operates locally in each market, so you register separately for each8.
- Can you support local customers? Returns, language support and delivery times decide whether creator traffic converts.

Step 2: Choose the platform for each market
Choose the platform your buyers in that country use for your category, then let the economics break ties. TikTok delivers the most views per dollar, Instagram the most views per follower, and YouTube the longest-lived content at the highest cost per view.
Platform benchmarks (Kolect creator database and Kolect-run campaigns, 2025–202632)
| Benchmark | TikTok | YouTube | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Median views per follower | 14.36%3 | 28.63%3 | 16.88%3 |
| Median engagement per view | 7.83%3 | 2.83%3 | not reported |
| Median agreed fee per collaboration | $4502 | $4502 | $6002 |
| Median realized CPM of delivered posts | $6.732 | $17.962 | $74.242 |
YouTube's CPM counts only about the first month of views, so it overstates lifetime cost for long videos that keep earning views2. Views per follower also vary by market: on TikTok the median was 11.34% for US creators against 23.78% in Western and Northern Europe3, so a US follower count overstates reach more than a European one.
TikTok is the platform most brands plan around: in Influencer Marketing Hub's 2026 survey, 31% of respondents included it in their influencer plans, more than double Instagram's incidence7. Each platform also runs its own creator marketplace: TikTok One for TikTok10, Meta's Creator Marketing Hub for Instagram and Facebook, launched globally on 15 September 202611, and YouTube Creator Partnerships (formerly BrandConnect) for YouTube12. Our TikTok One guide covers TikTok's in detail.
Step 3: Pick the collaboration model
Choose the model by what you need back: reach, sales, ad creative or a long-term voice. Most international programmes combine two.
| Model | What you pay | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paid post | A fee per deliverable | A post to the creator's audience | Launch awareness in a new market |
| Paid post + ad rights | Fee, usually with rights included | The post plus the right to run it as Spark Ads or partnership ads | Reach now, ad creative after |
| Gifting / seeding | Product and shipping | Optional posts, honest feedback, a shortlist for paid work | Testing product-market fit cheaply |
| Affiliate / TikTok Shop commission | A share of sales | Creators who sell, paid on results | Sellers on TikTok Shop or with an affiliate programme |
| UGC (content only) | A fee per video | Videos you publish or run as ads | Ad testing in each market's language |
| Ambassador | A retainer over months | Repeated posts and a consistent face | Markets you are committed to |
Rights are standard, not an extra: in Kolect-run campaigns, 80.4% of agreed single-post deals included paid-usage, whitelisting or ad-code rights, and 14.5% of deals were multi-post bundles2. On TikTok Shop, a target collaboration lets you invite chosen creators with a commission between 1% and 80% and optional free samples9. For content-only work, see how to find UGC creators.
Step 4: Find and vet local creators
Find creators who post in the local language about your category, then vet each one's views and audience location before outreach. Searching your home market's terms in English will miss many of them.
- Write a one-line brief per market: platform, country, language, niche, follower range and what the creator must already be doing.
- Search in the local language, not just English: "Kaffeevollautomat Test" finds German coffee creators that "coffee machine review" does not.
- Use the platform marketplaces for creators who opted in to brand deals, and a cross-platform search tool for everything else; our guide to finding influencers compares the five methods.
- Vet on views first. On TikTok, 15.8% of accounts with 5K+ followers in Kolect's database had median views below Kolect's size-adjusted warning line, against 1.1% on Instagram3. The free fake follower checker and engagement rate calculator run these checks.
- Check audience location from the creator's language, captions and comments: a Spanish-speaking creator may have an audience in Mexico, not Spain.
For TikTok markets, our top TikTok creators by country and niche lists are a free starting point.
Step 5: Run outreach, contracts and payment across borders
Run outreach by email in the creator's language, timed to their working hours, and put every term in writing before a sample crosses a border. Our influencer outreach email templates cover the full sequence from first email to signed deal.
Cross-border specifics to settle up front:
- Currency. Quote and pay in USD unless the creator asks otherwise; 85.4% of agreed deals in Kolect-run campaigns were in USD, 10.1% in EUR and 1.5% in GBP1.
- Payment timing and method, including who pays transfer fees.
- Samples: shipping time through customs, duties, and whether the creator keeps the product.
- Usage rights: platforms, paid or organic, and duration, matched to Spark Ads codes or partnership-ad permissions.
- Disclosure: which label the creator uses in their market (Step 7).
- Content review: who checks the local-language script and claims before filming.
Step 6: Build the budget by market
Build each market's budget from creator fees, product and shipping, and ad spend to amplify the best posts. A hypothetical example, using the country medians above as planning figures:
| Line | Germany (10 creators) | Spain (10 creators) |
|---|---|---|
| Creator fees at the country median | 10 × $700 = $7,0001 | 10 × $500 = $5,0001 |
| Product, samples and shipping | Your cost per unit × 10, plus international shipping | Same |
| Ad spend to boost the best posts | Set after the organic results are in | Same |
Medians are a starting point, not a quote: the creators you shortlist will price above or below them depending on tier, niche and views. Our influencer rate calculator checks individual quotes.
Step 7: Follow each market's disclosure rules
Disclosure rules follow the audience, not the creator's passport, so set one standard that satisfies your strictest market: a clear "Ad" label at the start of the post plus the platform's paid-partnership tool.
| Market | Rule source | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| United States | FTC | If posting from abroad, US law applies if it's reasonably foreseeable that the post will affect US consumers; free or discounted products also require disclosure13 |
| United Kingdom | ASA and CAP with the CMA | The influencers' guide to making clear that ads are ads, third edition published 23 March 2023, sets out how to label ads14 |
| European Union | EU consumer law, national authorities | The Commission's Influencer Legal Hub explains that EU consumer law already requires advertising, including brand partnerships and affiliate marketing, to be disclosed16 |
| Every platform | TikTok, Instagram, YouTube policies | Turn on the platform's commercial-content or paid-partnership setting |
Enforcement is real: in an EU-wide sweep of 576 influencers by authorities in 22 member states, 97% published commercial content but only 20% systematically disclosed it, and 38% did not use the platforms' labels15. Write the label into the brief and the contract, and check it before you pay. More on disclosure and compliance.
Step 8: Measure results market by market
Measure each market on cost per view and cost per result, so markets with different prices compare fairly.
| Metric | How to calculate | Why it matters across markets |
|---|---|---|
| Cost per 1,000 views | Creator fee × 1,000 ÷ views | Normalises different creator prices |
| Engagement per view | (Likes + comments + shares) ÷ views | Shows whether the content landed in that culture |
| Clicks or code uses | Tracked links, discount codes | Ties views to intent |
| Cost per sale | Total cost ÷ attributed orders | The number that decides whether to scale a market |
| Ad performance of creator content | Spark Ads or partnership-ad results | Tells you which creators to rebook |
As a benchmark, delivered posts in Kolect-run campaigns had a median realized CPM of $6.73 on TikTok and $17.96 on Instagram2. After the first wave, rebook the creators who beat your market's median and drop the rest.
Do it in-house, use a platform, or hire an agency?
Do it in-house with a search tool if you have people who can work in the market's language and hours; hire an agency or managed service when you are opening several markets at once.
| Your situation | Best fit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| One market, a team that speaks the language | In-house with a creator search tool | Lowest cost; you own the creator list |
| Selling on TikTok Shop in one or two countries | TikTok One and Seller Center tools, plus search | Native workflow and commission tools |
| Several markets at once, or no local-language staff | Agency or managed service | Outreach, contracts and payment handled per market |
| Testing before committing | Gifting plus a few paid posts in one market | Cheap signal on product-market fit |
Ask any agency how it sources creators (its own data, a third-party tool or a fixed roster), whether you approve every creator and every piece of content, and whether creator fees are shown separately from its margin.
Kolect works both ways. Its search covers 300M+ TikTok, Instagram and YouTube creators from a one-sentence description, refreshes followers and views before each result is shown, and adds each creator's match reason, matching videos and a 0–100 authenticity estimate4; public contact emails are included on every plan, from $7.20 a month or free for your first creators5. It does not hold creator rate data or audience demographics. For brands that would rather not run each market themselves, the Kolect team's managed service handles strategy, shortlisting, outreach, rates and contracts, delivery and creator payment, with the brand approving creators and content4. More playbooks are on the industry playbooks topic page, or search for creators in your first market free.
Methodology
Kolect's figures come from two first-party datasets. Deal data covers creator-campaign partnerships in Kolect-run campaigns created between August 2025 and October 2026, excluding test campaigns and creators; fees are what the creator is paid, converted to USD at one exchange-rate snapshot, by the country of the creator account handed to the brand. Kolect's campaigns are concentrated in consumer tech, home, DIY and lifestyle products with mostly US and European creators, so other categories and markets may price differently. Views, engagement and authenticity figures come from creator accounts in Kolect's operating creator database, refreshed September–October 2026; the authenticity screen is a rule-based estimate from public metrics. No brand or creator is identified. Full definitions are in the sources below and in the influencer rates methodology.
